February 2026 Fishing Report

The February fishing outlook has arrived. Below are the details for what to expect on the water this month.

February is one of my favorite months for those willing to brave the elements. While the weather ranges from brutally cold to pleasantly warm, the fishing remains productive.

During periods of no generation, fly selection remains consistent. Focus on midges and small nymphs with drag-free drifts. Look for moving water in shallow runs and riffles, as we are seeing great numbers of fish during these low-flow periods.

For high-water anglers, fly selection is more varied. Some days, dead-drifting wooly buggers under an indicator is most effective; on other days, the fish are more aggressive and prefer to chase. While consistent high generation means the fish are eating well, it can occasionally slow the bite due to overfeeding.

Recommended flies for February:

  - Zebra midges (sizes 18-22)
  - Rainbow warriors (sizes 18-22)
  - Perdigons (sizes 16-20)
  - Soft hackles (sizes 14-18)
  - White wooly bugger (sizes 6-8)
  - Silver and blue Kreelex (sizes 4-6)
  - White mini Drunk and Disorderly
  - White Circus Peanut
